Digitalization makes possible for us to provide the researchers and the private individuals with the access to the invitation cards, memorial certificates, diplomas, greeting cards, announcement and message cards, handbills, flyers and other publications that were specially produced for particular occasions between 1841 and 1871.
Excepting poster-sized prints, this database contains the small prints produced in the printing office of Szilády Károly, the first printer in Kecskemét.
The first printing office in Kecskemét began to function on July 1, 1841. Mr Szilády Károly directed it during three decades. After his death the heirs continued to do that work. Katona József Library owns around one thousand books and small prints produced by this exceptional printer. These library documents are of great value and their importance is invaluable from the point of view cultural history and local history.
The small prints need protection. So, their use is limited. Nevertheless their value of primary source attracts considerable interest. With the digitalisation both their protection and the access to them are granted.
Thanks to the grant received from the National Cultural Fund of Hungary (NKA), this database was further enriched by 2000 items in 2013. These new items are in connection with the cultural life in Bács-Kiskun County between 1969 and 1989. Lately we have been completing our database with the small prints relating to the missing years.
