Periodical reading room Periodical reading room

Here you can choose from more than 170 publications. You will find the copies of the local and national dailies and weeklies, the county’s information and advertising papers, the illustrated papers and magazines.You can ask for photographic copies of articles, advertisements and reports.Different optical facilities are at your disposal to help you to read. You can ask the librarian for a reading bar, reading ball or a traditional magnifier.The librarians help your orientation and give you information.Registered library membership is not necessary for you to use the Periodical reading room.

Lending stock Lending stock

The units of collection on the first floor can be borrowed. In the room of the fiction stock,the romances, the detective stories and science fiction books are on separate shelves. Next to the entrance of this room, you can easily find the books of compulsory reading at schools.In the room of non-fiction stock, there is resource material for each area of science. Language books together with language cassettes can be borrowed, too. Bibliographies in connection with the most popular subjects help to gather information. Further lending stock can be found in the ‘Children’s world’, mostly for children under the age of 12, in the collection ‘Europe’ and in the Musical collection in form of sound recordings.

Collection „EUROPE” Collection „EUROPE”

You can borrow fiction and non-fiction books as well as periodicals written in foreign languages. Most of these books are written in English, German and French. The collection is being enriched with the help of Goethe Institut and the British Council. At the Gateway UK Information Point teachers of English and students learning English will find different resource material, compiled by the British Council, e.g. textbooks, teaching aid and other printed, audio and video documents.

Reading room Reading room

 
The most valuable documents of the library’s holding can be read on the spot in the reading room. The rich non-fiction collection is good for those doing different research work, writing theses, preparing for inter-school competitions and searching for information in any particular topic. The reading room can be used by the registered members of the library.
 
The collection of the reading room comprises the following:
General and specific encyclopaedia, dictionaries
Reference books, monographs, bibliographies, omnibus volume and unique documents of the different branches of science
Hungarian technical journals and scientific reviews
Foreign daily newspapers, periodicals and magazines
 
Different optical low vision aids facilitate reading. We offer reading bars, reading balls, traditional and digital magnifying devices. 
The most valuable titles of the collection of belles-lettres are continuously available. These are as follows: Hungarian and foreign literary classics, omnibus volumes of famous contemporary authors, publications of life-works and series, valuable pieces in terms of bibliography and rare copies, literary compilations for festive or other occasions.

This separate collection preserves documents related to the past and present of Bács-Kiskun County and Kecskemét. We collect, not considering the type of document, publications with local content, documents published locally, produced by local printing offices and written by local authors (books, periodicals, small prints, minutes of general assembly, theses, AV documents).

As a result of press monitoring, a database of articles with local contents from dailies and periodicals subscribed to by the library

Historical Collection

This collection is the holdings of the former Municipal Library enriched between 1897 and 1944. The items can be used only on the spot, in the reading-rooms. Both the OLIB catalogue and the original hand-written card catalogue contain the data of these treasures and there is also a database for information retrieval.

Musical collection and services Musical collection and services

The biggest public collection - in our town and in our county - on the subject of music is waiting for everybody interested in listening to the virtuosos of classical music, the lively rhythm of folk music, the hit lists of pop music and the recorded literary works in the rendering of different performers, even on talking-book.In this diverse collection, the most valuable part within classical music is the collection of Kodály’s pieces of music.You can watch and borrow films from the collection, too.
