Katona József Könyvtár has become an accredited ‘Baby friendly place’.
We provide expectant and nursing mothers wishing to read and learn with a room suitable for breastfeeding and care for their babies.

Bababarát terület

Babies up to twelve months, who visit the library, receive - as present from the library – the so-called ’Babies’ booklets’.

Babaolvasó füzet Babaolvasó jegy

The ‘Baby reader’s card’ is for the registered library member under 3.
We assist the expectant and nursing mothers with a thematic list of recommended specialist literature (‘Baba-Mama bibliography’) related to the care for babies and we also lend them the following magazines ‘Anyák Lapja’ and ‘Kismama’.

If you visit our Children’s World web pages, you can get information in connection with our current programmes and services for babies and their parents.
The title of ’Baby friendly place’ was awarded to our library in 2007 by the National Committee for Support of Breastfeeding.

Equal access to the library services Equal access to the library services

One of the criteria of the accession to the European Union was the equal access for the citizens – for those with disabilities, too – in each arena of the social life, mostly in the public bodies.

The equal access to the library services is guaranteed by the following
•    the central library is in the downtown
•    easily accessible both on foot and by means of public transport
•    a ramp helps to enter the building that has full disabled access to all areas inside
•    at the main entrance the door is automatic
•    there is a lift in the public zone
•    the user can ask for a wheelchair
•    there are separate special lavatories for the disabled
•    there is enough room between the bookshelves
•    communication accessibility: at five information points as well as in the large room, those with hearing aid are assisted with induction loop
•    flash lamp and fire alarm warn people as soon as fire is detected
•    a special lane is marked out in the library in order to show the persons with visual impairments where to move along in the building
•    Eclips Reader machine, Braille, JAWS Screen Reading software and magnifiers are at the disposal of  the visually impaired
•    several staff members have completed a basic course of sign language interpreter
•    the title of ’Baby friendly place’ was awarded to our library by the National Committee for Support of Breastfeeding
•    a Baby friendly room is waiting for nursing mothers and their babies

Library courtyard with sports equipment Library courtyard with sports equipment

On the 15th August 2011, on occasion of the 15th anniversary of the library, one of the two inner courtyards of the library was inaugurated as a place for outdoor exercise.

This courtyard is equipped with outdoor sports equipment. The use in the open air of the pieces of equipment for the adult has a beneficial effect on the healthy function of the heart, lungs and metabolism, improves the motor coordination and enforces the stamina. Those for children develop the sense of rhythm and improve the arm-leg coordination, strengthen the spine, move the muscles of arms, legs and abdomen.
